Preparing website-ready images (browser-only)
Preparing images for the web involves more than changing dimensions. The Smart Image Fit & Optimiser includes website presets to help you create clean, correctly shaped hero banners, blog headers, and thumbnails without guesswork.
Open the Image Resizer to start preparing your images.
What this helps with
Use these presets to prepare images for common website placements, including decorative backgrounds and inline blog content. These presets help you create the right file shape and format — but they don’t guarantee SEO rankings or specific speed scores.
Website presets explained
Each preset is designed for a common website use case:
- Hero / Banner — large, high-impact images at the top of a page.
- Blog Header (featured) — the primary image for an article (top of post or listings).
- Blog Inline — images placed within the body of your text.
- Grid Thumbnail (square) — card layouts, galleries, and grid previews.
- Grid Thumbnail (landscape) — wide cards and featured rows.
- Background image — decorative elements behind other content.
Best format choice (WebP / JPG / PNG)
Choosing the right format helps keep your site looking sharp and loading quickly:
- WebP (recommended) — preferred for most website images: high quality at smaller file sizes.
- JPG/JPEG — a reliable fallback if you don’t want WebP or need broader compatibility.
- PNG — best for logos or interface elements that need transparency (usually larger files).
How cropping works
When you select a website preset, a fixed-aspect-ratio crop frame appears (for presets that require it). You drag and zoom the image behind the fixed frame to choose the best composition.
The crop frame appears only for fixed-ratio presets (Website / Social / Print). It is not shown in simple Compress or Convert modes.
Tips for the best results
- Avoid upscaling very small images too far — it can look soft or pixelated.
- If the result looks too “crunchy”, avoid oversharpening (or choose a less aggressive setting if available).
- For photos: WebP or JPG usually looks best. For transparency: use PNG.
Supported formats
- Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP
- Output: WebP, JPG/JPEG, PNG
- Not supported: TIFF/PSD/CLIP and other specialist formats (browser-only constraints)
Privacy
All processing happens entirely within your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server, and we don’t use accounts or tracking. On export, EXIF metadata (including GPS) is removed for privacy.
Troubleshooting
- It feels slow or fails: very large PNGs or too many images at once can strain memory.
- Mobile may be slower: try smaller batches on phones/tablets.
- No crop frame showing: make sure you selected a Website/Social/Print preset, not a simple Compress/Convert mode.
